1962 – Roger submits an application for The Detours to audition for the BBC Light Entertainment. The band members are listed as “Solo guitar – Roger Daltrey, Bass guitar – John Empwhistle, Rhythm guitar – Peter James, Rhythm guitar – Roy Ellis, Drums – Harry Wilson, Vocalist – Colin Dawson.”
“Peter James” may have been Pete Townshend. Pete later notes this month as the one where he successfully auditions for The Detours.
1965 – The first record by The Who is released. “I Can’t Explain” backed with “Bald-Headed Woman” comes out on the Brunswick label.
1965 – The Who play the Technical College (Chelsea School of Art) in Chelsea, London
1965 – Melody Maker carries a brief review of “I Can’t Explain” calling it “insidious and insistent”
1966 – The Who play at The Two Puddings Club in Stratford
1966 – The Who play the In Crowd Club in Hackney, London
1966 – Disc Weekly features an article entitled “Who’s Keith Moon: Home Boy at Heart”
1966 – Melody Maker features an article titled “Rave City ’66” where “Groups on the go choose the swingingest scenes” which features a brief quote by Pete. This issue also carries a story titled “Who Set Up A Test-run 3-day tour”. Also, one of the letters is in regards to Roger’s recent “Blind Date”
1967 – The Who fly off to Hamburg, Germany to mime to “I’m a Boy,” “Heat Wave” and “Happy Jack” on the TV show Beat Club. The Show is broadcast the following day.
1972 – Billboard lists “Let’s See Action” as #3 in Singapore
1973 – Keith flies to Paris to accept the Grand Prix de I’Academie du Disque Francais for Pete. The award is for both the Tommy album and a stage production.
1975 – John Entwistle and his band The Ox play at Exeter University
1993 – Roger Daltrey appears on Howard Stern’s radio show in New York.
2005 – Pete attends the final performance of a play about The Four Seasons, Jersey Boys, at the La Jolla, California Playhouse. Also present at the event are Frankie Valli and Bob Gaudio of the Four Seasons. The show raises $40,000 for victims of the recent Asian tsunami.
2011 – Roger performs as part of “The Rock & Roll Shabbaton 2011”
2013 – Pete Townshend, on behalf of The Who, presents six brand new Laser Pico sailing dinghies to representatives of Antigua’s National Sailing Academy. The dinghies are fully rigged with sails branded with The Who logo.
